Why Mdzini
A home is the foundation a student builds on.
When rent is uncertain, studies come second. Mdzini takes rent off a student’s shoulders, so their energy can go into learning, growing and, one day, giving back.
"Mdzini" means "home" in Giriama. That is what we set out to give: a safe, stable place to live and study.
How it works
From application to a paid rent.

Complete our application, one question at a time. Works on slow connections.
Verify
If your application goes forward, a field assessor visits your home to verify your situation.
Review
The Mdzini team reviews the application, scored on financial need, academic potential, housing vulnerability and family or mental-health circumstances. You receive the decision by email.
Rent paid
Rent is paid directly to your landlord.
Thrive
Rent is our core intervention, and mentorship helps it lead to graduation.

Made for students in the greatest need.
The application asks the eligibility questions first and tells you straight away.
Application detailsYou are likely eligible if all of the following apply:
- Currently enrolled at a university or college
- Living off-campus in rented accommodation
- NHEFM Band 1–4 (household income ≤ KES 83,000/month)
- Not receiving full accommodation support from another programme
- Willing to share academic records and home information
